La chaise longue o “butaca larga” es una palabra de origen francés cuyo significado viene a decir diván alargado.
Cuentan que su origen fue francés a finales del siglo XVIII, pero en realidad ya en el Imperio Romano se utilizaban.
En el XVIII ganó mayor relevancia coincidiendo con una etapa de grandes cambios sociales para la mujer y desde entonces, se empezaron a poner de moda. Fumar o tumbarse en un diván alargado eran símbolos de estilo, elegancia y poder económico ya que era un artículo de lujo en toda regla.
A medida que la historia siguió su curso, este singular mueble se convirtió en un artículo de decoración en los hogares de las clases aristocráticas.
Y eso porque definía el estilo de la vivienda en salones y vestidores.
A día de hoy se siguen usando más que nunca aunque su concepto ha variado notablemente. Desde el legado que nos dejarán el suizo Le Corbusier, arquitecto, diseñador de espacios, pintor y escultor o su colega alemán Mies van der Rohe cuyas Chaises Longues siguen vivas en todo buen salón de diseño que se precie.
Le Corbusier fue uno de los exponentes más conocidos de la arquitectura moderna y del diseño del siglo XX. A partir de su singular versión de la Chaise Longue, se desarrollaron mil variantes, todas ellas llenas de estilo y diseño propio.
Esta pieza del mobiliario tiene múltiples funciones estratégicas en salones, vestidores, zonas de estar e incluso entradas de la casa.
